I've been trying to register JimmytheGeek as a domain name for a couple years now, but the .com and .org flavors just haven't been available. A lot of geeks must be named Jimmy because the name sure is popular!
Just by chance, I checked it again today and JimmytheGeek.org was available.
I jumped all over it! I went to Network Solutions and registered that sucker so fast it made my head spin!
I created a new namespace on my host server and set the Network Solutions dns to point there. After a few hours, the new domain name propagated throughout the Internet and should be accessable anywhere in the world.
For the moment, I've got it set to simply redirect to this Blog. You won't see the jimmythegeek.org in your address bar. But I'll be working on that.
So now you can browse to http://www.jimmythegeek.org and get here. A much easier address to remember.
Cool!
I was digging around on my GoToGeek website and came across this Browser Resize Utility that I put together several years ago.
I was developing a commercial website and needed to test it in different screen resolutions. I researched the javascript tags that had to do with screen size, browser size, and actual browser window size available and soon had the code up and running.
Simply select the resolution you want and browse to the page you're testing.
If you'd like to see the source code, simply open the page, right-click, and select View Source.
So I'm trying out a few tools designed to make blogging easier. Qumana is a slick looking desktop blog editor and publisher that is simple to use, even for those who don't know HTML. And it's free!
Qumana features a WYSIWYG editor, that allows you to do simple standard formatting. You can also view and tweak the HTML produced. The one glaring thing I see missing is the ability to change font color and size. I know, I can go in and add an HTML font tag, but I shouldn't have to do that. (Although it IS free!)
I'll try it out for a while...
Weeeeeee! Here we go with my first post!
If you're reading this, I'm flattered that you're taking time out of your day to see what I'm up to. Thank you!
It's a beautiful day here in the Pacific Northwest. The sun is bright and the sky is very blue. Unfortunately, it's also super cold out there... about 30 degrees right now. It got into the mid teens last night... brrrrrrr. So far, I'm being pretty lazy, but that's what three-day weekends are for.
I've got some plans for this blog... I want to snap a photo every day and post it. I also want to track my progress on my 10,000 steps a day. I'm into astronomy and quilting, so there should be some comments about those hobbies too.
I'll be back...
